CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES
SEEN to SHINE K-12 (learning about the brain)
Brain knowledge by itself is an empowering tool. Understanding the mechanisms underlying human behaviour, feelings, and subjective experience can increase a sense of control, compassion, understanding of self and others, and raise intellectual curiosity for both humanities and science. Specific attention to the developing brain can also support meta-cognitive development by building regulation and reflective skills, moral values, inclusion, and empathy.
School years, and especially adolescence, is also a critical time for mental illness onset and chronic stress. Learning about these issues from a scientific perspective can be a valuable tool in cultivating awareness for self-care and positive mental health.
We design our program in collaboration with each school/class to address the specific needs and goals of each group.
